Surveying for protected species and designing mitigation proposals

Since June 2009, I work for a French ecological consultancy, Ecosphère. My main activities involve EcIA studies for major infrastucture schemes (TGV lines), wind farms, quarries, etc. I am specialised in mammal, reptile and amphibian survey work.

From December 2006 to May 2009, I worked for a major civil engineering consultancy based in Maidstone, Kent (Jacobs Engineering UK Ltd) which has an ecology team within its environmental division also specialised in landscape design & management, noise & air, EIA and tree care.

I carried out ecological scoping surveys and specific surveys for bats, otter, water vole, badger, birds, great crested newt, reptiles and invertebrates (e.g. Odonata, Aculeates and Lepidoptera).

I also designed mitigation proposals for such protected species to ensure compliance of proposed works with European and UK legislation (European Protected Species licence applications); and produced biodiversity management plans for sites such as HM Prisons as part of a BREEAM accreditation.

I was a great crested newt survey licence holder and I worked towards gaining a dormouse survey licence.

I was also an associate member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management.
